Xi'an

Xi'an

Step Face-to-Face with China’s Ancient Empire If you want to understand the modern marvel of China, you first have to stand in its ancient epicenter. Xi'an is the legendary starting point of the Silk Road and served as the capital for 13 different Chinese dynasties. The crown jewel of your visit? Standing in awe before the Terracotta Army—thousands of life-sized, uniquely sculpted warriors buried for over two millennia to protect China’s first emperor in the afterlife. It is universally considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. But the magic of Xi'an extends far beyond the warriors. Rent a bicycle and ride along the top of the massive, perfectly preserved Ancient City Wall as the sun sets. Then, let your senses guide you through the bustling Muslim Quarter, a vibrant maze of street food stalls where you can taste legendary hand-pulled noodles and warm, spiced flatbreads. Epic, historical, and deeply atmospheric—Xi'an is a journey back in time.

FAQ’s about Xi'an

When is the best time of year to visit Xi'an?
The most pleasant times to visit are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to October). The weather is crisp and cool, perfect for biking the City Wall or exploring the outdoor excavations. Summers can be quite hot, and winters are cold and dry, though the sites are beautifully uncrowded during the winter months.
How far are the Terracotta Warriors from the city center?
The museum is located in Lintong District, about an hour’s drive (40 km) outside of downtown Xi'an. Navigating public buses to get there can be confusing for international visitors, which is why our tours include private, air-conditioned transport directly from your hotel to the VIP entrance.
Can anyone ride a bike on the Ancient City Wall?
Yes! The wall is massive—nearly 14 kilometers (8.5 miles) around—and the top is flat, wide, and paved. We can arrange single bikes, tandem bikes, or even eco-carts if you prefer not to pedal. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to cycle the entire perimeter, offering incredible views of both the old and new city.
What kind of food is Xi'an famous for?
Prepare for a feast of carbs and spices! Xi'an is famous for its wheat-based dishes, not rice. You must try Biang Biang noodles (thick, hand-pulled noodles in a spicy, savory oil) and Roujiamo (often called the Chinese hamburger—slow-braised meat stuffed into a crispy baked bun). The Muslim Quarter is the best place to safely sample all the local street food.
Do I need a guide for the Terracotta Warriors?
We highly recommend it. There is very little English signage inside the excavation pits. Our expert local guides bring the silent army to life, sharing the fascinating history, the incredible discovery story from 1974, and pointing out the hidden details you would easily miss on your own.
