Chongqing

Chongqing

Step Into the Real-Life Cyberpunk Metropois Forget everything you know about city skylines. Chongqing is a mind-bending, multi-layered "8D" mega-city built directly into steep mountainsides where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers collide. Here, you will see roads on top of buildings, monorails driving straight through the middle of residential apartment blocks at Liziba Station, and a skyline that looks straight out of a sci-fi movie. When the sun sets, the city transforms into a neon wonderland. Wander through the glowing, cliffside architecture of Hongyadong—which famously looks exactly like the bathhouse from Spirited Away—before sitting down to a boiling pot of legendary, face-melting Chongqing Spicy Hotpot. Wild, futuristic, and unapologetically bold, Chongqing is an absolute must-see for photographers, foodies, and anyone looking for a travel experience they can't find anywhere else on Earth.

FAQ’s about Chongqing

Have more questions? Contact us.

I heard Google Maps doesn't work well there. Is it easy to get lost?
Yes! Chongqing is famous for its 3D layout. You might be on the "ground floor" of a building, take an elevator up 10 floors, walk out the door, and be on another street level entirely. GPS navigation is notoriously unreliable here because of the vertical overlapping roads. This is exactly why our guided tours are essential—our local experts navigate the maze so you can just enjoy the incredible views.
When is the best time of year to visit Chongqing?
The best times to visit are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). Chongqing is known as one of China's "Three Furnaces," meaning summers (July and August) are incredibly hot and humid. Winters are mild but can be quite foggy and damp.
How spicy is Chongqing Hotpot? What if I can't handle spice?
It is fiercely spicy! Chongqing is the birthplace of the numbing, fiery mala hotpot. However, you don't have to burn your tastebuds off. Our guides will help you order a "Yuanyang" (half-and-half) pot, which features the spicy red broth on one side and a rich, mild mushroom or bone broth on the other.
Is there a lot of walking involved?
Because it is built on mountains, Chongqing has very few bicycles and a lot of stairs. While we provide comfortable private transport between major districts, exploring areas like Shibati (Eighteen Flights of Stairs) or Hongyadong requires walking and climbing steps. Comfortable walking shoes are a must!
What is the Yangtze River Cableway?
It’s a massive cable car that flies directly over the Yangtze River, offering spectacular aerial views of the city's towering skyline. It’s an iconic Chongqing experience, and our tours handle securing the tickets so you can skip the massive ticketing lines.
