When is the best time of year to visit Chengdu?
The ideal times to visit are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). During these months, the weather is mild and comfortable. Spring is especially great for seeing the pandas, as they are very active in the cool weather. Summers can be hot, humid, and rainy, while winters are generally cold and cloudy.
When is the best time of day to see the pandas?
We highly recommend visiting the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding first thing in the morning (around 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM). Pandas are incredibly sensitive to heat and are most active during their morning feeding times. By midday, they usually retreat indoors to sleep!
I don't tolerate spicy food very well. Will I be okay?
Absolutely! While Chengdu is famous for its fiery dishes and the unique "numbing" Sichuan peppercorn, there are plenty of non-spicy options. From savory dumplings (Zhongshui Jiao) to rich, mild broths, our guides can help you navigate menus and request dishes "bu la" (not spicy) so you can still enjoy the incredible local cuisine.
How do we get around the city?
For our guided tours, comfortable private transport is provided. If you are exploring on your own during free time, Chengdu has an excellent, clean, and expansive Metro system with English signage. Taxis and ride-hailing apps (like DiDi) are also incredibly cheap and easy to use.
What is a Sichuan Opera "Face-Changing" show?
It is a spectacular traditional performance unique to the Sichuan province! Performers wear brightly colored masks and, with a quick swipe of a fan or a turn of the head, magically change their masks in a fraction of a second. It’s a thrilling cultural experience and a must-see while you are in the city.
