Zhangjiajie

Step Into the Real-Life World of Avatar Prepare to have your mind blown by gravity-defying landscapes that literally inspired a cinematic masterpiece. Zhangjiajie is home to thousands of towering, pillar-like quartz-sandstone peaks that pierce through the clouds, famously inspiring the floating "Hallelujah Mountains" in James Cameron’s blockbuster film, Avatar. But the surreal scenery is just the beginning of the thrill. Ride the Bailong Elevator—the highest outdoor glass elevator in the world—built directly into the side of a massive cliff. Test your nerves by walking across the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, suspended a dizzying 300 meters above the canyon floor. From taking the world's longest cable car up the dramatic peaks of Tianmen Mountain to encountering wild macaque monkeys in the lush forests below, Zhangjiajie is an adrenaline-pumping, visually staggering paradise for nature lovers and thrill-seekers alike.

FAQ’s about Zhangjiajie

Do I need to be a hiker or super fit to visit?
Not at all! While the peaks are thousands of feet high, the park is incredibly well-developed. We utilize a massive network of spectacular cable cars, the cliff-side Bailong Elevator, and smooth eco-buses to get you to the absolute best viewpoints with minimal effort. There is walking involved along paved, flat cliffside paths, so comfortable shoes are a must, but you do not need to be an athlete to enjoy the staggering views.
I am afraid of heights. Will I be okay?
Zhangjiajie is famous for its heights, including the Glass Bridge and the cliff-hanging glass skywalks on Tianmen Mountain. However, you are never forced to do anything outside your comfort zone! Our private guides can easily route you along solid, non-glass concrete paths that offer the exact same breathtaking views without the terrifying drop below your feet.
Why do I need a guide for a national park?
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is absolutely massive (over 11,900 acres) with multiple different entrances, confusing internal bus routes, and crowds of domestic tourists. Trying to navigate it on your own often leads to wasted hours waiting in the wrong lines. Our expert local guides know the park like the back of their hands. They map out the most efficient, crowd-beating routes so you spend your time taking photos, not looking at maps.
When is the best time of year to visit?
Spring (April to May) and Autumn (September to October) are the best times to go. The weather is comfortable, and the skies are generally clear. However, a little bit of mist is actually a good thing! After a light rain, the fog settles in the valleys, making the towering stone pillars look exactly like they are floating in the sky.
What is the difference between Tianmen Mountain and the National Forest Park?
They are two completely different areas! The National Forest Park (Wulingyuan) is where you see the famous pillar-like "Avatar" mountains. Tianmen Mountain is located right next to the downtown city center and features a massive natural archway (Heaven's Gate), the 99-Bend Road, and the world's longest cable car ride. Our multi-day itineraries ensure you experience both without feeling rushed.
